What stands out about the Dallas Stars’ playoff offense
Isaiah J. Downing-USA TODAY Sports

The second-round series between the Dallas Stars and the Colorado Avalanche has not disappointed.

There has been 20 goals through the first three games, a series in which the Stars have a 2-1 series lead, with Game 4 on Monday in Denver, CO. However, only half of those goals have been scored at even strength, a testament to each of the teams’ power plays.

A large part of the Stars’ success has been their ability to get into the Avalanche’s zone so quickly. Quick and crisp breakout passes from defenders to the attacking forwards and taking advantage of gaps in Colorado’s defensive structure have paved the way for plenty of offensive opportunities for Dallas, especially early in games.

As we head into Game 4, the question now becomes: Can the Stars continue their offensive dominance and take a commanding 3-1 series lead? Or will the Avalanche find a way to suppress Dallas’ breakouts?

On Monday’s episode of Daily Faceoff LIVE, Frank Seravalli and Tyler Yaremchuk are joined by former QMJHL coach Jon Goyens for another edition of “The Coaches Room,” to discuss the Stars’ offense and what to expect Monday night in Denver.

Tyler Yaremchuk: Outside of the flurry late in Game 1 by the Avalanche, the Stars have been in control in this series. Both teams have only scored five times at five-on-five, which is fascinating. What stands out to you when it comes to the Stars’ success?

Jon Goyens: It’s how quickly Dallas will score in transition from 200-feet away, or off turnovers. Too often, they’ve been able to go from one end to another, beat the first two or three forecheckers, then set themselves up nicely for odd-man rushes.
