Jets HC makes bold statement about Super Bowl chances

Jets head coach Robert Saleh is drinking the Aaron Rodgers Kool-Aid.

"Realistically, there are six-to-eight teams that have a chance to (win a championship), and I do think we are one of those teams," Saleh said in a Tuesday news conference.

New York hasn't made the playoffs in 12 years — the longest active drought in the league — and finished 7-10 last season. But it has budding young stars in 2022 Offensive Rookie of the Year wide receiver Garrett Wilson and 2022 Defensive Rookie of the Year cornerback Sauce Gardner.

Acquiring Rodgers from Green Bay could be the cherry on top, transforming the Jets into a potential contender. Per OddsChecker, they hold the seventh-best Super Bowl odds.

However, teams who pinned their championship hopes on veteran QBs with a Super Bowl ring, such as Rodgers, have had mixed results.
Future Hall of Famer Tom Brady led Tampa Bay to its second Super Bowl title and three playoff appearances, while Russell Wilson went 4-11 with Denver last season, and the Broncos were 5-12 overall.

Rodgers' numbers dipped slightly in 2022. In 2021 he threw 37 TDs compared to 26 last season. His QBR also fell from 69.1 to 39.3, below the league average. The Packers went 8-9 and missed the playoffs.
Yet this might not signal a decline. Green Bay traded star wideout Davante Adams to Las Vegas in 2022, replacing him with inexperienced targets. Rodgers could rebound with a rising star in Wilson.
Also, Rodgers wants to become the QB that lifts the Jets to their first title in over 50 years.

"I noticed that Super Bowl III trophy looks a little lonely," Rodgers said in his introductory news conference.

Expect the hype train to roll on because the four-time MVP and New York continue to fuel it.
