Roger Goodell addresses the impact Taylor Swift has on NFL

Roger Goodell loves the impact Taylor Swift made on the NFL during the 2023 season. While appearing on The Pat McAfee Show on Friday, the NFL commissioner shared his reaction to Taylor Swift attending Kansas City Chiefs games to watch her boyfriend Travis Kelce.

“There’s some things you can control or not control. Anybody who’s interested in the NFL, that’s good for me and good for everybody involved in the NFL,” Goodell explained. “You get somebody with the kind of exposure and the following like Taylor Swift, who does love football, I’ve known her for 15 years. I first met her in New Orleans.

“She loves the game, so that’s great for us,” Goodell continued. “Take the relationship out of it, which if they’re happy, I’m happy.”

With the Chiefs in the offseason, Kelce and Swift have been spending more time together. Most recently, the couple attended The 15 and Mahomies Foundation Golf Classic gala in Las Vegas, joining Patrick Mahomes and his wife Brittany Mahomes for the auction event. It comes after Swift released her 11th studio album, The Tortured Poets Department on April 19.

Taylor Swift talks added attention at NFL games

When Swift attended her first Chiefs game in September, it seemed the entire world was watching. In December, the 14-time Grammy winner spoke to Time magazine about the attention she received anytime she went to a game.

“I don’t know how they know what suite I’m in,” she says. “There’s a camera, like, a half-mile away, and you don’t know where it is, and you have no idea when the camera is putting you in the broadcast, so I don’t know if I’m being shown 17 times or once.” She is sensitive to the attention that’s put on her when she shows up. “I’m just there to support Travis,” she says. “I have no awareness of if I’m being shown too much and pi--ing off a few dads, Brads, and Chads.”

Swift also talked about how the relationship with the three-time Super Bowl champion tight end began, which was Kelce calling out Swift on the New Heights podcast. “We started hanging out right after that,” she said. “So we actually had a significant amount of time that no one knew, which I’m grateful for, because we got to get to know each other. By the time I went to that first game, we were a couple. I think some people think that they saw our first date at that game? We would never be psychotic enough to hard launch a first date.”
